Kripalu Yoga for All

What is Reiki?

Reiki, (pronounced Ray-Key), is a Japanese method of stress relief and relaxation that promotes health and well-being. Working with the universal energy, known as Chi, Prana or Life Force,  Reiki consists of a series of hand positions that can be done directly on the receiver's body, or from a distance. Fully clothed, the recipient is seated or lying down and the practitioner acts as a conduit passing the universal energy through the hands to the receiver.

The traditional hand positions correspond to the Chakra energy system and if there are energy blocks, a trained practitioner will intuit those places that need to be included.

Reiki is not a religion and you don't have to be religious or have certain beliefs for it to work. Reiki was discovered in March 1922 by Dr. Mikao Usui on Mt. Kurama, a sacred mountain north of Kyoto, in Japan. Dr. Usui recommended that one practice certain simple ethical ideals or principles to promote peace and harmony, which are nearly universal across all cultures.

The following are the 5 Reiki principles:

Just for today, do not worry,
Just for today, do not anger,
Just for today, be kind to others,
Just for today, work hard and earn your living honestly
Just for today
be gratefu for everything,
